Orthodontics are worthwhile at any age
It is never too late to benefit from a straighter smile, provided your teeth are healthy and strong. Many people assume the effects of wearing braces are merely cosmetic but properly aligned teeth can be easier to brush and floss which may help reduce your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Teeth that bite together correctly will wear down more evenly and are less likely to place any stress on the jaw joints (temporomandibular joints), reducing the risks of developing a painful condition called TMD (temporomandibular disorder). Modern braces can be very discreet, using nearly invisible brackets and wires or clear removable aligners to gently but firmly reposition teeth.
While adolescence is the most opportune time to straighten teeth, orthodontic treatment can be performed as young as 8 and can be equally effective for adults.
